Nearest Mark
Do the math, then get the nearest mark you can actually find on a tape measure.
How to find the halfway point on a tape measure
Type your measurement, like 23 17/32, pick an operation, and enter a number to divide by. Nearest Mark shows the exact answer and the closest mark you can actually find on a tape, rounded to the size you choose.
Example: half of 23 17/32" is exactly 11 49/64". Rounded to the nearest 1/16", that's 11 3/4".
Questions
What does rounding to the nearest 1/16 mean?
Most tape measures have marks every 1/16 of an inch. A result like 11 49/64" falls between marks, so the calculator picks the closest one.
When should I round down or up?
Choose Down when you'd rather land a hair short of the exact spot, and Up when you'd rather land a hair long. Nearest picks whichever mark is closer.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit it works without a connection, and you can add it to your phone's home screen.
Does it do metric?
Not yet. It works in inches and fractions of an inch.
For critical cuts, double-check the result against your tape. The "Off by" line shows how far the rounded mark is from the exact value.
