About Nearest Mark

A small, free project for the shop.

Nearest Mark started with a simple annoyance: dividing a measurement in half and getting a fraction that isn't on a tape measure. The first calculator takes your math and rounds the answer to the closest mark you can actually find, then shows it on a ruler.

It has grown into a small set of calculators, guides, and charts for woodworking: tape measure math, fraction conversion, board feet, equal spacing, and miter angles.

It is made and maintained by one person, it's free to use, and there are no accounts to create. The calculators run in your browser, so your measurements stay on your device.

Results are rounded to the size you choose, and the "Off by" line shows how far the mark is from the exact value. For cuts that matter, check the result against your tape and your material before you cut.
